Meet Mackenzie Dorsey

SCA President

Meet Mackenzie Dorsey

Senior Mackenzie Dorsey is your 2016-2017 Student Council Association (SCA) president. As SCA President, she is in charge of certain events like Fair at the Falls and tailgates. She is extremely excited to make some big changes to Potomac Falls this year. As a senior, she is balancing applying to college, being a member of the dance team, running cross country, all at the same time. Dorsey puts all her energy into everything she does, and she hopes to  make every Potomac Falls event a huge success.

Q: Why did you run for SCA?

A: “I wanted to be able to have a lot of say in a lot of our big school events and see what it’s like to plan them behind the scenes.”

Q: What are your responsibilities as president?

A: “I talk to Ms. Lexi Swinimer, the SCA sponsor, a lot about what’s going on and I make decisions about many school events. We are split into partners and every group is in charge of certain events. I often consult with Ms. Swinimer if she has a question about any of the decisions I made about other events as well as my own events. My events are tailgates and Fair at the Falls. Jack Taylor is my partner, so I consult him on my events and he consults me on his.”

Q: How do you balance  being on SCA while being on the dance, track and cross country team?

A: “I will be able to do track in the spring but currently I can’t run cross country because of a hip injury that needed surgery in July. I will hopefully be able to run the last legs of cross country. As far as the dance team and balancing school it’s really hard. I don’t get a lot of sleep but I use my agenda a lot to organize my time, and I make sure when I do my homework that I’m focusing on my homework and not something else. I minimize the distractions and just try to get stuff done as efficiently as possible.”

Q: What are your favorite things to do on SCA?

A: “I have made really great friends. I love talking to them and collaborating our ideas. It’s always fun.”

Q: What are your likes and dislikes about SCA?

A: “I dislike having so much to do all the time,it’s hard to balance everything. But I love staying after school doing stuff and seeing a final project come together.”

Q:What’s the most memorable moment you’ve had since being elected on SCA ?

A:”Probably painting the spirit rock. It wasn’t actually painting the spirit rock that was memorable, but the weather was so nice outside that I just enjoyed being outside with other members of SCA.”

Q:What would you do if you won the lottery?

A: “If I won the lottery I would pay for my college,so my parents wouldn’t have to pay and I would pay for medical school.”

Q:What upcoming plans do you have for our school?

A: “I’m in charge of Fair at the Falls. There are going to be food trucks and I’m so excited to finalize it this weekend. I’m excited to see how we can make this year even greater than the years before.”

Q:What made you choose Dr. Seuss as the homecoming theme?

A: “I have to say that I was into the theme ‘decades’ the entire time but I love the idea of Dr.Seuss. There are a lot of ways you can look at Dr. Suess. There are so many books and themes from those books that can be incorporated into decorations and spirit days.”

Q:What do you think you bring to the table that’s different than any previous SCA presidents?

A: “I have 2 older sisters, my oldest sister graduated in 2012, so my family has never not had someone in Potomac Falls since 2008. Therefore, I feel like I’ve seen a lot of changes, and I’ve always been involved. I’ve been able to see how Potomac Falls has grown and where it hasn’t grown. I feel like I can bring back things that have worked in the past.”
