Spring Sports Preview: Girls’ Varsity Tennis

A closer look at this year’s team

Tennis season has just begun, and the 2017 PFHS girls’ tennis team has been working hard towards a successful season. While no major changes have occurred since last year, they have just welcomed four new freshmen onto the team.

“We just got new team members that make up about half of the team,” said senior Tamara Gonzalez.

Seniors Brittany Schlosberg and Tamara Gonzalez have just been elected as team captains and their optimism and faith in the team’s potential is sure to strengthen the entire team. “I always start the season with a fresh, positive attitude,” said Gonzalez.

Schlosberg and Gonzalez have made it their goal to continue the team bonding. Even though many of the members are new, the team has already formed a strong bond.  “My biggest goal for this season is to have the team bond and work well together,” said Gonzalez.

This is junior Shahira Ali’s second year on the varsity team, and she made the decision to return because she loves to play tennis.  While there are twelve places on the team, only six play singles. Ali has been preparing for this spring season all winter, and she is hopeful that she will be able to play in the top six.

“My goals for this spring are to hopefully win as many matches as possible, get to know the team members better, and have an overall awesome and fun season,” said Ali.
