Movies coming to the big screen this year

This year there are several highly anticipated movies coming out and some that no one has heard of.  Many of the movies happen to be sequels, some of which are from movies that came out years ago. With the new movie theater in the Dulles Town Center there more movies that can be shown at once.

The new Regal theater has become very popular since it has opened. More people are starting to prefer it because of its reclining chairs and pricing. Senior Mae Pariss is excited to visit to it.

“It looks really nice and it’s the same price of the other one so why not go to the better one?” said Pariss.

Some of the already predicted blockbusters of the year are “Mockingjay- Part 2”, “Cinderella”, “Insurgent”, “Fifty Shades of Grey”, “Avengers: Age of Ultron”, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Pitch Perfect 2”. Pariss thinks that some of these movies look interesting.

“I always wanted to read ‘Fifty Shades of Grey’, so that would be cool to see [with friends].” said Pariss.

Even though there are several original movies such as “Jupiter Ascending” and “Tomorrowland”, most of the movies are follow up movies or remakes. Sophomore Arjit Roshan noticed this trend.

“All of these [movies listed] are reboots and sequels,” said Roshan.

Some of the sequels to be released this year include “Ted 2”, “Hot Tub Time Machine 2”, “Taken 3”, “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” and “Hotel Transylvania 2”. Junior Inusah Diallo is not a big fan of sequels.

“I don’t think any of these sequels should be made because, most of the time, they were originally really bad. The sequel tends to be worse, so I don’t think they should [make sequels],” said Diallo.

This year Disney seems to be following the trend that they began last year, with “Maleficent”, of remaking animated Disney classics into live-action movies and updating the stories to reflect modern society. “Cinderella” will debut in March and “The Jungle Book” will debut in October.

Along with many Disney movies, there are many different options of movies for all ages coming out this year. There are plenty of comedies, animation, sci fi/adventures, action, and dramas to choose from each month. Roshan is most excited for the superhero movies.

“‘Avengers: age of Ultronsounds pretty dope [and] any upcoming superhero movies, Batman, Superman, Dawn of Justice. Those are some of the movies I’m really excited about,” said Roshan.

Many of the big movies are coming out much later this year. “Insurgent”, the second installment of the “Divergent” series, is one of the closer big title movies to come out. Pariss is excited to see it on the big screen.

“It looks like a really cool movie. It looks super intense and I think seeing it in the movie theater would give it a really cool effect,” said Pariss.
