The Most Valuable Player (MVP) competition is beginning to look like one of the most competitive races yet. Two rookies from the Dallas Cowboys, Ezekiel Elliott and Dak Prescott, both have been in the MVP talk, but they do not have stats that compare to the top two candidates. Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers have both had a near perfect Quarterback rating (QBR) this year making them a front-runner in the MVP race.

“[Elliott] and Dak don’t deserve it. They have the best offense line in the league and don’t stand out above Matt Ryan and Aaron Rodgers, and Tom Brady, even though he missed the first four games, ” said senior Alex Arias.

Ryan lead the Falcons to be the number one offense in the NFL and giving them a chance at the Super Bowl. He also had the highest QBR (117.1) this season, putting him at number six on the all time highest QBR list. The Falcons number one offense allowed Ryan to throw for almost 5,000 yards and an outstanding 38 touchdowns.

“I think Matt Ryan should get it. The Falcons are really good and Ryan has showed he is an MVP candidate with his stats this year,” said junior Grant Huller.

Although Ryan may have won in his competition with Rodgers in the playoffs, the MVP is voted on the player’s regular season performance.

Ryan lead his team to an 11-5 record but did not do it in the same fashion Rodgers did. The Packers were off to a 4-6 start through the first game of 10 games of the season and Rodgers was being blamed for their struggle. After the Packers lost in week 11, Rodgers predicted the future and said they would win the rest of their regular season games and make the playoffs. Rodgers came out in week 12 and beat the Eagles and wouldn’t slow down for the rest of the season. The Packers ended the regular season on a six game win streak going into the playoffs.

“Aaron Rodgers should win MVP, he’s lead his team to a long win streak at the end of the regular season and has been the most dominant player in the league,” said Arias.

As fans wait for the Super Bowl to see the Falcons and Patriots play in the Super Bowl they also wait to see if these two elite quarterbacks, and MVP candidates, can hold down their title of being the best player in the NFL.

“The Falcons are going to win the Super Bowl. They will blow past any of the teams left because of Julio Jones and Matt Ryan,” said Huller
