Time to cuddle up with a mug of hot cocoa and escape the winter chill as you enjoy these holiday classics you won’t want to miss

These six movies bring you everything from cheery childhood nostalgia to cringe-inducing laughs. If you haven’t seen them, you’ve got time. And if you have seen them, you can agree these are the type of classics you want to watch year after year.

Home Alone

You’re in for a treat if you like a movie full of mischief and action. The main character, Kevin (Macaulay Culkin), is accidentally left home alone when his family travels to Paris for Christmas vacation. When two thieves known as the wet bandits decide to target the neighborhood, Kevin must pull elaborate pranks to keep himself safe in such a big house. This movie will keep your interest wondering what on Earth this kid will do next.

Elf

Buddy the Elf (Will Ferrell) travels from the North Pole, where he doesn’t quite fit in, to magical New York City as he searches for his real father. Ferrell brings his trademark obnoxious humor and Christmas spirit that is fun for the whole family. If you want a good laugh and Christmas cheer, be sure to catch the great adventure of one of Santa’s favorite elves. And watch out for the yellow ones, they don’t stop.

Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer

A cute, animated movie that tells the original tale of Rudolf and the hardships he faces to become Santa’s leading reindeer. Although this movie might seem quite old fashioned, it’s a classic that will bring you back to childhood with its simplicity and positive message.

The Polar Express

If you love all things Christmas with a little bit of song and dance, you will love this movie. What seems to start out as a basic Christmas Eve turns into an adventure for a few lucky kids, to the North Pole via a magical train called the Polar Express. The movie, based on the classic book, is all about keeping the spirit of Christmas alive and the importance of believing in something bigger than yourself – no matter your age. This one gets you into the Christmas mood and makes you want a whole lot of hot chocolate.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas

In line with the classic Dr. Seuss book, the Grinch (Jim Carrey) himself embarks on a mission to “steal” Christmas from all of Whoville. The visuals in this movie make you feel like you are literally inside of some of Seuss’s pages, and Carrey doesn’t disappoint bringing the green thing to life. As the story develops, so does your Christmas spirit. Like in the classic book, the Grinch soon redeems himself, and it is truly a Merry Christmas for all.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

Full of unfortunate events and witty, dry humor, Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) and his family try to create the perfect Christmas. But as his wife says, “it’s the holidays and we’re all miserable.” With extended family in town (including his RV-driving cousin Eddy), a Christmas tree equipped with a live squirrel, and a house full of lights that just won’t twinkle (if you don’t get the reference, you better get to watching!), the Griswold’s holiday hits some bumps in the road – especially when Clark’s Christmas bonus doesn’t come through. Watch the Griswolds attempt to make the best out of Christmas, when everything goes absolutely wrong.
