As school begins and summer 2024 comes to an end, let’s look at some of the most notable moments of music this past summer.
The summer of 2024 has been a lot of things, but without a question, it has been a summer of music. There were new releases coming out left and right, and artists were experimenting with so many new genres of music that fans quickly ate up.
Young artists such as Gracie Abrams and Sabrina Carpenter skyrocketed up music charts after their highly anticipated album releases. Both of these artists were openers at The Eras Tour for Taylor Swift, the event that helped to spread their music and talent all across the globe.
The country genre also had several hits this summer from artists like Zach Bryan, Luke Combs, and even Post Malone. Malone debuted his first full country album with features from some of the greatest country artists of all time, including Tim McGraw, Dolly Parton, and Brad Paisley. Not only did Malone shock the world by experimenting with a new genre, he shocked the world when his album quickly topped the charts as a fan favorite.
Artists also released single hits: Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars released ‘Die With A Smile’; Drake, Young Thug, and 21 Savage who released ‘It’s Up’; and Chase Atlantic released ‘DIE FOR ME’. Drake and 21 Savage also released several diss track singles targeted at each other in response to their controversy.
It wouldn’t be a summer of music without mentioning how Charlie XCX’s new album ‘BRAT’ completely took over all music platforms and social media. While summer of 2024 will be remembered as a summer of music, it will also be remembered as ‘brat summer’.
Since there were so many releases, here’s a breakdown of each of the most popular albums of summer 2024.
Sabrina Carpenter’s sixth studio album Short n’ Sweet, released on August 23, has been on repeat for most people recently. This album goes into detail about Carpenter’s current and past relationships, and the album title explains what most of her relationships have been: short n’ sweet.
The Great American Bar Scene, Zach Bryan’s newest album, was released on July 4, a patriotic date to represent the patriotic album. Bryan’s music is somewhere in between the void of classic folk country and pop country. Some would say that his music is one of a kind. Bryan sings about relationships, love, patriotism, violence, family curses, hopes, and dreams.
Charlie XCX’s sixth studio album brat was the hit of the summer. Released on June 7th, the album quickly topped all charts and quite literally changed the world. According to Matacritic, it is the highest rated album of 2024. The album’s covert art and vibe quickly became a trend and even Vice President Kamala Harris used it in her presidential campaign. The album has an alive, electric feel that intimidates the classic pop feel.
From opening on The Eras Tour, to debuting her second album, The Secret of Us, at #2 on the Billboard 200, Gracie Abrams has had quite a year. The album was released on June 21st after her two singles “Risk” and “Close To You”. Abrams’ catchy pop music has found its way across social media, especially to TikTok. Following the release of her album, Abrams announced her first tour, “The Secret of Us” Tour. Abrams is only at the start of her career, and she is already on the track to major success.
These are just a few of the music releases of this summer, all of which showed the diversity of the music industry, the creativity of artists, and the possibilities of upcoming artists. It’s safe to say that there was new music for every genre and person during the summer of 24’.
