We’re just four weeks into 2025 and Hollywood has already announced some of the best movies to come this year. Read more to find out what to expect.
JANUARY:
Wolfman: Blake (played by Christopher Abbott) and his family are attacked by a strange animal and barricade themselves at their house for safety. As the night starts to take over the sky, Abbott finds himself feeling strange and starts to jeopardizing his wife and daughter’s safety as they attempt to stay alive from the beast roaming the perimeters of their hideout.
Dogman: Bringing the New York Times bestseller comic book into movie theatres, “Dogman” takes over the screen with another adventure following a dog and man hybrid. As Dogman embraces his new identity, he is on a mission to save the world from supervillain Petey the Cat from cloning himself and spreading crime.
One of Them Days: Starring Grammy-winning artist SZA (who plays Alyssa) and Best Actress-winner Keke Palmer (who plays Dreux), this movie features a race against the clock to pay their rent after Alyssa’s boyfriend took it all and an attempt to keep their friendship together while avoiding eviction all at the same time.
FEBRUARY:
CAPTAIN AMERICA: Brave New World: Sam (played by Anthony Mackie) finds himself in an international affairs incident after his meeting with President Thaddeus Ross (played by Harrison Ford). Sam has to get to the bottom of the problem and the reason for a villainous plot before the real mastermind behind everything makes the word fall into shambles.
Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare: One of Disney’s iconic movies gets a horror parody, when Wendy meets a twisted Tinkerbell and ventures of to Peter Pan’s land, the Neverland island, in hopes of rescuing her brother Michael from the shackles and clutches of now-evil Peter Pan.
The Day the Earth Blew Up: a Looney Tunes Movie: Another Looney Tunes movie brings more adventures. This time Porky and Daffy discover that the Earth is in danger due to an evil alien. Both are determined to work together and save the world, however, they have to overcome an obstacle: that is working together without driving each other crazy whilst doing so.
MARCH:
Mickey 17: “Mickey 17” is a new sci-fi movie starring Robert Pattinson. The movie starts off when Mickey Barnes (Robert Pattinson) decides to sign up and become a disposable employee where after one iteration dies, a new body regenerates in its place with their memories still attached. Mickey 17 accidentally survives a human expedition to colonize an ice world and then comes face to face with a new multiple, Mickey 18.
Snow White: Starring Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, the Snow White movie is a live action version of the original “Snow White” made in 1937 by Disney. The story follows the same story as before: Snow White befriends seven dwarfs and hides from her stepmother who is jealous of her because she is the fairest of them all.
A Working Man: “A Working Man,” starring Jason Statham and David Harbour and written by Sylvester Stallone, is a thriller about Levin Cade (Jason Statham), who left behind a military career and now leads a simple life working in construction. His life was simple until his boss’s daughter suddenly got kidnaped. Now his only goal is to bring her home safely and uncover a world of corruption and hate.
APRIL:
Sinners: Attempting to leave the past behind and start a new, two twin brothers, played by Michael B. Jordan, return to their hometown. To their unfortunate surprise, they discover that an evil was waiting for their return all along.
A Minecraft Movie: Starring Jason Momoa, Jack Black and Jennifer Coolidge, the movie starts off with a strange portal navigating four misfits into the Overworld which is a strange cubic world that thrives specifically on imagination. Their goal is to get back home, in order to do so they’ll have to get equipped with the terrain and embark on a quest with a character named Steve.
The Ritual: A new horror movie starring Al Pacino, the storyline follows two priests who have to put aside their differences, struggles and problems in order to perform a series of life threatening exorcisms on a young woman who happens to be possessed. “The Ritual” is based on true events.
MAY:
Lilo & Stitch: A live action remake of the movie that came out in 2002, this is a lighthearted comedy in which a Hawaiian girl befriends a strange fugitive alien who later turns out to be the glue to put her family back together.
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning: The sequel to the 7th movie in the Mission Impossible franchise, viewers tune into Ethan Hunt’s adventures as he completes his final impossible mission. This stars Tom Cruise and Vanessa Kirby.
Karate Kid: Legends: The return of a fan favorite franchise starring Ralph Macchio and Jackie Chan, the plot follows a kung fu prodigy Li Fong (played by Ben Wang) who struggles to let go of the past and fit in at school. When a friend ends up needing his help, Li Fong enters a karate competition. In order to ensure his victory, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) and Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) help him become the ultimate fighter in the martial arts world.
JUNE:
How to Train Your Dragon: Another live action in the making, this time, how to train your dragon returns keeping the same plot of the first ever “How to Train Your Dragon” movie, where Hiccup (Chris Sanders) is a Norse teenager and the son of the chief of the clan. He gets thrown into the dragon fighting school but his different views of the world end up in him befriending a dragon named Toothless and changing his peoples’ futures.
F1: A former Formula 1 driver by the name of Sonny Hayes, who is played by Brad Pitt, finds himself back behind the wheel competing in the sports top competition after suffering a terrible crash in a previous F1 competition.
Megan 2.0: Following the movie Megan, the second movie is also expected to have the AI powered doll to make a return, go rogue and cause havoc around the world.
JULY:
Jurassic World Rebirth: Starring Scarlett Johansson, the “Jurassic” franchise makes a comeback after three years, delivering yet another action based movie where the DNA of three colossal creatures across land, sea and air are found and allegedly store a drug that brings life-saving benefits to humans.
Superman: The classic D.C. franchise makes a return with yet another “Superman” movie. This time, Superman goes on a journey to reunite his Kryptonian heritage with his adoptive family in Kansas, where he is best known as Clark Kent.
Fantastic Four: The First Steps: Starring Hollywood favorites such as Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn and Pedro Pascal, Marvel’s first family is attempting to balance out their hero and family lives whilst defending the planet from evil, which is being sent out by a space god by the name of Galactus.
AUGUST:
Freakier Friday: Featuring actors such as Lindsay Lohan, Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Chad Michael Murray, the plot follows two girls’ stories, Anna and Tess. After enduring an identity crisis many years ago, the two females have to navigate the obstacles when two families merge.
The Bad Guys 2: After the release and the beginning of the franchise back in 2022 with the premiere of The Bad Guys, the sequel The Bad Guys 2, features reformed criminals, Mr. Wolf, Mr. Snake, Mr. Piranha, Mr. Shark and Ms. Tarantula. They try to change their old ways and start new, but suddenly find themselves in a high stakes heist situation conducted by a new team of delinquents: the Bad Girls.
SEPTEMBER:
The Conjuring: Last Rites: Diving into the spooky season, another addition to the Conjuring Franchise is coming out. This time, paranormal investigators take on their last exhilarating and horrific case which involves the confrontation and investigation of strange beings.
The Bride: Continuing the horror theme, starring Christian Bale and Jake Gyllenhaal, the plot is taking place in the 1930’s where Frankenstein travels to Chicago in order to get Dr. Euphronios to create a companion for himself. The two decide to bring back a murdered woman. However, she brings nothing but mayhem, from sparking romance to getting the attention of the police.
Saw XI: The 11th addition to the horror franchise, “Saw XI” features the return of Tobin Bell’s Jigsaw. The character’s real name is John Kramer, who is not only a cancer patient but also an engineer, setting up deadly traps to teach his victims about embracing life.
OCTOBER:
Micheal: This is a biopic of the well known king of pop, Michael Jackson. The movie features a portrayal about the singer’s struggles, success and the road to becoming an international sensation. This biopic also explains the more personal life of the superstar in depth.
Roofman: Starring Channing Tatum and Peter Dinklage, a former Army Ranger and struggling father resorts to robbing McDonald’s restaurants by cutting out holes in their roofs (which earns him the nickname “Roofman).” Later, after he gets let out of prison, he decides to start anew, hiding in a toy store and falling in love with a woman. However, his past slowly starts to catch up to him and threaten his attempts at living a fresh start. This movie is based on a true story.
NOVEMBER:
Zootopia 2: After nine years, Disney has finally released the sequel to Zootopia. The plot is centered around the previous characters Detective Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as they find themselves on the hunt for a suspicious reptile who wreaks havoc on the mammal metropolis at Zootopia.
Wicked: For Good: The sequel to the adaption of the Broadway musical and movie “Wicked,” released in late 2024, this movie’s storyline consists of the obstacles Elphaba faces with her identity as the “Wicked Witch of the West,” after challenging the Wizard’s regime in the world of Oz.
DECEMBER:
Five Nights at Freddy’s 2: Just like in the game, the horror returns with a sequel to “Five Nights at Freddy’s.” Former security guard Mike Schmidt (Josh Hutcherson) has to fend off animatronic creatures at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.
Avatar: Fire and Ash: James Cameron returns with yet another sequel to the popular franchise Avatar. The Na’vi heroes and Sully’s family from previous films encounter a fire Na’vi tribe known as the Ash People.
