Potomac Falls Drama’s 2025 spring musical is “Hairspray,” and here’s what to know.
“Hairspray” has been a popular musical for quite some time now. It is set in the 1960s and tackles themes of body positivity, self acceptance, and racial integration.
The story follows Tracy Turnblad (Natalie Brown), who has long dreamed of dancing on the Corny Collins show (a popular local TV program). Tracy’s quirky best friend Penny (Kara Greb) has a love interest named Seaweed (Charles Fisher). They try to make a difference with their relationship by challenging social norms.
Despite facing rejection and backlash from Velma and Amber Von Tussle (Rachel Sigler and Niclole Babb), Tracy remains determined to earn a spot on the show. With the help of her mom Edna (Owen Cook) and her love interest Link (Eli Coelho), Tracy strives for integration and change. She proves that anyone– regardless of race, size, and background– can make a difference and achieve their goals.
The musical has a powerful message of equality, and celebrates diversity and acceptance.
You can see “Hairspray” May 1 through May 3. Tickets will be available to purchase soon.
