From pep rally chaos to personal victories. Students and Teachers look back to the funniest, toughest, and unforgettable moments that defined this year.
As the school year comes to a close, students and teachers here at PFHS are reflecting on the moments that made this year one they will always remember. From big school-wide events to achievements on an individual level, to important lessons learned through real-life experiences, everyone had one specific thing that they considered to be the biggest highlight of the year. The memorable moments people had prove that so much can occur throughout one school year, and different situations can profoundly affect people in numerous unique ways.
Lenna Lupsha, a sophomore, had personal growth as her highlight of the year. Lupsha stated that the breakup she went through was the biggest thing to happen this year because she found out that she and the other person “weren’t right for each other,” but then she also said that after going through it and growing as a person, they both ended up “in better places.” The lesson she learned from this, and the situation as a whole, was a positive one, which made her day at school.
Sophomore Jackson Snyder had pep rallies as the greatest moment of the year. Although the rallies boosted spirits and were a school-wide event that generated a ton of energy, the pep rallies at times became a source of stress for students as well. Snyder found the rallies “fun and stressful at the same time” this year and thought that it made them a significant event in that large fights between students broke out at some of the rallies, which intensified the atmosphere of school and caused even more concern and distress among the students than normal.
As a freshman, Katie Flores’ memorable moment of the year was making the winter cheer team. Katie originally did not expect to make the team, but during her tryout, the cheer coach praised her for doing a fantastic job, and by the end of the tryout, Flores was placed on the winter cheer team! As she knew there would be at least one part that made her day during cheer tryouts, finding out she made the team and seeing her coach was incredibly proud of her put a huge boost in her confidence, making the moment one she never would forget.
Teachers had some great memorable moments this year as well. Mr. Walker, who is a teacher for AP Seminar and English 11, along with serving as the English department head, stated his greatest and funny moment was “all the English teachers dressed up like me for Halloween!” He elaborated that the teachers had all dressed up wearing two t-shirts, loose fitting jeans or pants, skateboarding shoes, and a lanyard around their necks just as Mr. Walker wears them daily. Mr. Walker stated he felt “really flattered” and that the whole thing was “really hilarious,” because all the teachers in the English department had pulled it off perfectly.
Even though all of the people interviewed had completely different answers, the moments they all mentioned proved to be highlights of their personal year at PFHS this year. Some people had highlights due to events that occurred at school and in their lives, while others had them due to moments with other teachers or through challenges and achievements they overcame, proving all kinds of events make up the experiences and emotions found within a school year. As everyone moves on from this year and looks to a brand new school year, they can hold these specific moments dear in their hearts.
