Editorial: My beef with Bieber and crazy beliebers
Looking at the problems I have with Bieber, and crazy, obsessive fangirls of his
I hate Justin Bieber’s “music.” Ever since the spineless yes-men working in the upper tiers of the music industry decided it was a good idea to sign him and allow him to record and release the garbage he produces, the world has been exposed to Bieber seemingly non-stop. In addition, people have been forced to deal with all of his subpar songwriting (of course, he doesn’t even write his own crap), limited topic matter, minimal talent, and an irritating, prepubescent singing voice high enough in pitch to shatter my glasses (though his voice has apparently deepened slightly, it’s still annoying). But for all of the irritation Bieber brings me, in light of his recent arrest after drag racing, among other things, I have realized that there is something worse than all of these things: his psychotic fanbase.
In the wake of this waste of space’s arrest, his fanbase, mostly consisting of also-irritating prepubescent girls, have flocked to social media to defend their idol. Anyone who says anything even mildly negative about Bieber is instantly attacked and threatened. Even as I write this, I can practically hear Molotov Cocktails smashing against my front door, along with the sound of millions of butthurt, obsessive fans, moaning over what is only the latest incident in a long line.
This is hardly the first time that Bieber’s fans have completely lost it. After it was revealed that Bieber used marijuana, several girls began cutting themselves in the hopes of making Bieber stop. Bad enough as this was, it took this latest issue for me to write this, as I can no longer take it.
I have several issues with these crazy fans defending Bieber. First and foremost, perhaps you all have forgotten, but Bieber has committed a crime. Several, as it turns out, including drag racing while intoxicated, thus threatening the lives of residents in the area. Sure, he used SUV’s to close off the road, but it’s still dangerous in a residential area. Another question would be who even gives him the authority to close a road, but that’s another issue altogether. This talentless punk knew what he was getting into the minute he decided to drag race, hit the bottle, light a blunt, and spray graffiti all over the place. This behavior is inexcusable and indefensible. If you are an obsessive fangirl who has helped make #FreeJustin a trending topic on Twitter, please slap yourself repeatedly in the face, because by showing such support, what you are doing is showing a contempt for existing laws. You can still like Bieber (though I can’t imagine why you would like him in the first place), but please, do not try to justify and defend his contempt for the law. If he had killed someone because of his actions, would you still defend him like you do after he damaged property? And this doesn’t even refer to Justin Bieber alone. The same goes for any celebrity in a similar situation. If you break a law, then you will be punished if you are caught. Poor behavior is inexcusable and should never be defended. I don’t care who you are.
Of course, Bieber’s behavior is hardly the only thing that irritates me. Next let’s take a look at the psychotic girls (sorry, but they are the majority of his fanbase, and thus, the intended recipients of this rant) who threaten/scream at other people who say something mildly negative about this punk. My response: everyone’s entitled to an opinion, even if it sucks to you. Bieber’s a public figure and we have something called free speech in America. We can say what we want, so long as it does not pose a clear and present danger. I hardly think saying “Bieber sucks” jeopardizes the safety of anyone. It’s my opinion that Bieber sucks, and if you don’t like it, well that sucks for you. You don’t have to like my opinions, and to those fangirls out there, I despise yours, but I at least respect that you have a right to like Bieber if you choose. I don’t understand it, but that’s my problem. In my opinion, Bieber is talentless and I am going to express that. The fact that he committed a crime is only going to lead to public expression of these opinions. If you can’t handle it, put on the headphones you didn’t buy, crank up the crap Bieber puts out, and bury your head in some hideous pillow with his face on it.
My third and final problem with this whole Bieber situation has to do with people who act like their lives are over because of this. Let’s take a second to put things in perspective: a celebrity went to JAIL. It’s not exactly rare for such an event to happen. Even if the celebrity happens to be your heartthrob, your world is not over. You did not die. A loved one did not die. A friend did not die. Justin Bieber did not even die. He went to jail. Fortunately for him, he is already out of jail, so in the grand scheme of things, anyone who cried over this (fangirls) had a massive overreaction.
In all honesty, I hope Justin Bieber does get his life together. I don’t want to see anyone go down a downward spiral, even if I dislike them. Nevertheless, I still hold him accountable for his actions, and if you are one of the people who blindly defend him, worship him, and cry over him, you seriously need to reevaluate your life in light of what he has done. That is all.
