King of the falls
Every year, during the first week of April, the senior class sponsors a fundraiser known as Mr. PFHS. However, this years offers a twist from the conventional view. The seniors will be incorporating a community service event along with their annually setup affair.
In honor of this year’s Panther Project, the senior class will be collecting toiletry items to send to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church. If students bring a toiletry item the night of the event, the cost will decrease to two dollars.
“Each contestant will be promoting a differently toiletry item as part of the people’s choice voting. The attendees will be asked to bring a toiletry item to support their favorite contestant,” said Career Center Specialist Mrs. Stacey Thomas. Previously, all Mr. PFHS proceeds would help to fund the senior class picnic at Algonkian Park. Instead, all proceeds will go towards buying more toiletry items to be sent around the community to those in need.
There are many things to be completed for this event. The weeks leading up to Mr.PFHS, the Senior Advisory Board advertises, writes the script for the hosts, creates sashes, decorates, constructs the programme, and produces the baby slideshow that plays while people wait for the event to begin. The night of, the Senior Advisory Board is split in half. One half works behind stage and the other half works as ushers and at the booths.
“Behind the stage they are assisting with contestant’s props, costume changes, collecting all pieces to the tuxedos, and making sure the night stays timely,” said Thomas.
From beginning to end, seniors put lots of time and effort into Mr. PFHS in the hope it will pay off. This year, this event will take place on Wednesday, April 2. Seniors get in for free, and everyone else must pay five dollars.
“We want to get as many people involved as possible from contestants to judges to Senior Advisory Board [members]. This is a senior event led by seniors for everyone’s enjoyment,” said Thomas.
