CAMPUS hosts a talent show to raise scholarship money
With the immense amount of talent present at Potomac Falls, it is no surprise that students are using their abilities to benefit the education of their peers. College Achievement Minority Program for Unique Students, CAMPUSS, is a preparation program aimed at achievement in higher education, run by guidance counselor Mr. Richard Bader and business and marketing teacher Mrs. Michelle Veney. The group is for historically underrepresented nationalities and first-generation higher education students with goals of attending and affording college. CAMPUS is currently organizing a talent show that will raise scholarship money for their senior-members.
Junior Ebone Smith, a member of CAMPUS and the head of the talent show organization, is proud of the group and their head start on the future. “We meet with each group, freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors, both separately and together, to discuss scholarships, how to apply to college, and apply for financial aid,” said Smith. The show is the club’s main event for the year in an attempt to raise appropriate funds. The acts include a variety of entertaining, and unusual, talents, including members of the RUCKUS team and piano players amidst singing and dancing. “We have 18 to 19 acts, which is exciting. It’s way more than we expected and we’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback on Facebook,” said Smith.
While putting together the talent show, CAMPUS is also selling lollipop bouquets for $1 each at lunch to add to their scholarship fund. The club is hoping to give away one or two scholarships, based on their success in raising money, to deserving seniors in the club. The show will take place on Friday, April 4, at 7:00 p.m. The cost of admission is $5 per ticket. Smith believes attending the show would benefit students at Potomac Falls through a great night of entertainment for the whole community. “Come to the talent show, it will be super fun!”
