Experience will prove right for the job

A few of the many reasons to vote Cassie Hazlett for SCA secretary

Junior Cassie Hazlett takes on the challenge of running for SCA secretary. She anxiously awaits to see the results.

A sincere and sweet young lady, Cassie Hazlett anxiously awaits to call herself SCA secretary as the 2013-2014 school year comes to an end. With her only competitor being a sophomore, Hazlett is the optimal candidate for the job.

“I’m older [than her competition] so I’m more experienced and I will be able to connect with a broader group of people just because I have been here longer. I also know what SCA has done in the past and I know how it all works,” said Hazlett. However, it is more than just experience in the SCA society that makes up this well-rounded candidate. Hazlett is a very personable character who cherishes a friendship that goes beneath the surface.

“I’m very focused on building one on one friendships. I’d rather be with one friend than an entire group of people. I wouldn’t say I’m very outgoing but I like to get out of my comfort zone when I can,” said Hazlett. What it all comes down to when deciding on which candidate to choose from, people are going to select the one with the best ideas and that is just what Hazlett has.

“When I filled out the form for it [SCA secretary], I mentioned that I wanted to talk to [SCA Advisor] Ms. [Lexi] Swimminer for a possible spring fling kind of deal after SOLs, where all the students could get outside and have a free day,” said Hazlett. When this soon-to-be SCA secretary is not busy cranking out new ideas for next year, you can find Hazlett giving back to her community through her church.

“I’m very involved with my church [Reston Bible Church], I do a lot of volunteer work through that. I’m in their youth group; I just try to do as much volunteer work as I can,” said Hazlett.

Q & A with Cassie Hazlett:

1.) Do you have any special skills?

“I’m a people person so I like to get to know people and I’m not one of those surface level people you typically meet in high school. I like knowing someone deep down.”

2.) Describe your ideal weekend…

“Gosh, I just want to be at the beach every weekend with friends. I want to wake up early in the morning, read a book and go to the beach.”

3.) If you had one word to describe yourself, what would that word be?

“People always tell me I’m sweet.”

4.) Why did you decide to run for secretary rather than one of the other positions?

“I’m good friends with [senior] Rachel Ciehoski and thought it would be fun to take over her position as secretary.”

5.) What emotional feelings would you have if you won?

“I would be so ecstatic, and the rest of the contestants are juniors too so it would be almost like a family, which would be nice.”
