  • What are your duties as Creative Director?

A: “My duties as Creative Director are pretty much plan all the artsy things that you guys see in the Homecoming hallways and then try to figure out what all the other classes are doing for their hallways too, so we can grab some of their ideas too. All the posters you see in school are usually me, sometimes Anisha, or one of the other girls. Just design stuff and figure out what we need or buy for that kind of stuff and figure out who can do that kind of stuff.”

  • Who are you outside of school?

A: “I am a best friend, a daughter. I am pretty much the same. I think I am more loud, sometimes a little more quiet. It depends on my mood. But I’m still me.”

  • What do you like most about being the Creative Director of SCA?

A: “One thing I like the most is that when I did hallways for my class, I was representing my class. And I really love that I can take everybody’s ideas and incorporate it somehow, but now, not only am I representing my class, but I am representing the entire school. So even though it’s not something that I like, I like to add in things that I know other people will like.”

A: “I watch a lot of kid shows now. I watch the shows on the Disney Channel and the Nick. Gravity Falls , Adventure Time, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are my favorite.”

  • What is one thing you cannot live without?

A: “Music definitely. I am an artistic person, and it’s definitely one of the ways I express myself in. It has definitely helped me through a lot of stuff. I wouldn’t be here without it.”

  • What are your plans after high school?

A: “My plans after high school, as much as people bash NOVA, I will go NOVA for two years and then transfer to a school and pursue neuroscience.”

A: “A lot. The hours are hectic especially during Homecoming week; coming in at 6:30 and probably staying till 7:00 at night. It’s just very time consuming and exhausting.”

  • What’s your favorite color and why?

A: “I like pastel colors, so probably like a sky blue or like a lavender, or like a faded coral. I don’t know, they’re more soothing; they’re easier to fall asleep to.”

  • What is your biggest fear for this year?

A: “I guess not, doing my college stuff in time, not being up to par with the schools I want to get into, just having enough time to work everything out and not be stressed.”

  • Using only three adjectives, describe yourself.

A: “That’s like the worst thing, to describe yourself. This isn’t really a good thing but I’m controlling. I like controlling situations. I think ahead, I’m a planner. I’d say that I’m generally happy. Happy person, upbeat and I’d say like a servant because I like doing things for other people. I like making other people happy.”

Devin MacGoy

  • What drew you toward running for Secretary?

A: “I ran for secretary because I knew it was a position that I would really enjoy on SCA. You get to manage all the notes and basically all the business that we do at all of our meetings and stuff. I was excited to run for whatever I could just because I love campaigning. And it’s just a lot of fun to talk to people, make the posters, hang them all up, so it’s just a lot of fun.”

  • Do you have any plans to be involved in politics in the future?

A: “Yes, definitely. Yeah I’m not exactly sure what I want to do yet, but I’m trying to decide between international relations and I guess domestic affairs I guess you can say. I’m hoping after college to go into the Peace Corps for maybe education; it would be great to run for office at some point. My friends tell me I should be President, but I don’t know if that’s going to happen. But I really would like to get some kinds of position like on school board, that would be really cool so I could still be involved in education which is something I feel strongly about.”

  • What do you like to do outside of school?

A: “Outside of school I’m really busy. I really just like to get involved in a lot of different things that could help me in a future career like United Nations. I do debate. I’m the school board rep for SCA. I do the International Summit; so, basically outside of school I do extracurricular activities. I’m also an Intern on the campaign that I work on and that’s how I just really get involved in politics and it’s a great launching pad for the future.”

  • What are your goals for this year?

A: “I really want to make SCA awesome. Make sure all of our activities run smoothly, they’re really great, [and] get as much school turn out as possible. Other goals outside of SCA, I would like to keep my GPA up with all that I’m doing, [it] will be tough with all of the classes too. So definitely keep my grades up and take on as many leadership roles as possible. Just really make my mark on the club.”

  • What was the most exciting thing that happened to you over the summer?

A: “One of the most exciting things that happened to me over the summer was that I went to a politics and governing program at UVA and I got to see really amazing high schoolers from around the state, and I got to learn more about Virginia’s government and meet some amazing people that are like at the top of their fields in politics and governing and journalism and all that stuff, so it was just a really great opportunity to get involved in that. On the less academic side, one of the more exciting things that I did was I went mountain biking and camping with my Dad in the Shenandoah Valley and that was just gorgeous landscape. Just relaxing and a lot of fun.”

Oliver Yan

  • What are your opinions on the new changes in Homecoming and around the school?

A: “Obviously time is a challenge for Homecoming to be this close but I feel like my board is fully capable of doing whatever it takes to get Homecoming done with quality on time. With ‘PriROARities’ I can see the point of having it because it’s important that we are not shuffling all around school and now having one classroom is going to allow us to become focus and get help in that class if we need it. I also feel like it would allow us to retake in the beginning of class will help us stay quiet for the rest of class.”

  • What flavor do you bring to SCA?

A: “Leadership, especially showing by example, I think that’s the way leadership should be. You can’t just tell people what to do, you have to do some of those things yourself to be able to have people follow you.”

  • What inspires you?

A: “People overcoming challenges in general. Such as, seeing the special ed kids coming in and out of school every day, for them to have a disability but still be fighting out there that inspires me because I know that they are doing everything they can so I need to do everything I can.”

  • What are your goals?

A: “First goal is to make Homecoming absolutely amazing I know we are running on a tight schedule, but regardless, I think we will do a fantastic job. Second goal is Snowcoming; last year the turnout wasn’t quite as great as we would have liked to see and I want to expand that way more this year maybe have more advertising and other methods to expand the number of people going.”

  • What do you find difficult when working with Homecoming?

A: “The tight schedule.”

  • In your role, what do you do on a daily basis? What are some of your responsibilities?

A: “As President of SCA I usually delegate my board members to activities that fit their strengths and wherever I am needed I can personally help them.”

  • Tell me who you are without saying your name.

A: “I am a huge nerd, I am proud to admit that; A huge nerd taking a lot of hard classes. I’m a really good debater.”

  • What do you think about your future?

A: “My immediate future is John Hopkins University, hopefully, that’s my top choice and then my goal in life down the road is to visit countries in South America and Africa without health care systems like in our states and work closely with doctors and volunteer and do whatever it takes to bring quality healthcare to these countries.”

Charlie Curtis

  • What do you do on a daily basis?

A: “My main role is to basically run the pep rallies. I’m the person who organizes meetings and events but other than that we all usually tend to do things as a whole. we all do things together which is why I like it, we conquer things as a team.”

  • What are some of your responsibilities for Homecoming?

A: “We have to decorate the main hallway and we have to decorate the whole gymnasium and get all the props setup and that can take a while. Also we had to print the tickets, organize everything that is going to go on, create a timeline for what’s going to happen, and find out who is going to run what. So basically everything that goes into the dance we do.”

  • What do you do outside of school?

A: “I play baseball, also coach and ref in our local basketball league.”

  • If you were remembered for one thing what would that be?

A: “Probably just for my personality. I would like to be remembered as the outgoing, crazy guy.”

  • What is the best piece of advice you were ever given?

A: “Probably ‘if you really want something never give up on it because you might regret it in the future and everything is as possible as you make it so go for your dreams if you want.'”

  • What do find most awkward about high school?

A: “Probably Mark Mogensen. Just seeing the freshman walking the halls and Mark Mogensen.”

  • When was the last time you fangirled?

A:Probably yesterday when I saw Mr.White walking the halls.”

Anisha Mathur

  • What is your favorite part about SCA?

A: “My favorite part is the people that are in it; we have so much fun. I love organizing the events and seeing how people react to what we are doing. I think as a group more than when we first came in; we’re all really excited for a new school year.”

  • How did you come up with the spirit days?

A: “Before school started we came in for the last week of August, and we all brainstormed our ideas on how we like to dress up, and in the past in our four years at what days people have been most excited about.”

  • What is your favorite upcoming spirit day?

A: “I’m really excited for USA day, the one we did last week came out really well.”

A: “I went to a two week summer camp in Rochester, New York which was really fun, and I was a counselor while I was there.”

Scott Wright

  • What is your role as treasurer and what do you like most about it?

A: “I do a lot of the busy work tasks, like the behind the scenes task, the ones nobody sees like make sure everyone is organized, it’s kinda nothing specific to treasurer because the school doesn’t trust SCA with the money anymore.”

  • What do you think are some of the ways the pep rallies can be improved?

A: “I think we can do better games personally, more fun games, better activities, make sure everything is more clear and precise, and make sure all the classes are involved instead of just one.”

  • What did you think of the flip to start off the first pep rally?

A: “I thought it was amazing, and beautiful executed by the treasurer.”

  • What interesting things did you do over the summer?

A: “Set up for graduation with SCA, as well as go to Arizona. I went to the Grand Canyon, Zion Canyon, and horseback riding.”
