Winter Sport Wrap-up: Girls’ Swimming

The girls swim team won four out of six meets against other schools this past season. Even though the team lost two meets, one was very close according swim coach Deirdre Deker.

“Everybody on the team is important whether you came in first or whether you came in seventh. Those last little points for fifth, sixth, and seventh place over the course of those eleven events adds up,” said Coach Deker.
Seven out of twenty-four girls participated in States this year which included freshman Lisa Ryan, Kelly Mogensen, Jessica Touve, sophomore Sarah Saunders, Junior Claire Nowinski, and seniors Lauren Donovan and Annie Beane.

Senior Karen Hood scored most of the points for the team over the course of the season and also went to conference. Beane was also one the top scoring swimmers for the team and she was also the team captain.

“My favorite part is just the chemistry within the team. It’s not like you just go to practice. You interact with the swim team outside of swimming, so you bond closer together,” said Beane.
