Winter sports wrap up: Girls’ Basketball

Underdog was the key word for the girls basketball team this winter. Though the team throughout the season went 2-17, they made a surprising turnaround when it came to the conference playoffs. The team beat highly ranked Briar Woods to advance to the regional tournament. “We had lost to them [Briar Woods] twice before, and we knew its really hard to beat a team three times, so they came into it really positive and thinking it was going to be easy. We just played our best and were unexpected,” said freshman Grace Deker. The girls had a respectable defense this season, though they lost many of their games, often they were marginal. However, the team still had fun throughout the long winter months, dealing with copious amounts of snow days that hindered their practice time. “Overall the whole season was really fun,” said Deker.
