FIRST SHOT

This year’s Freshman Basketball team kicked off their season with a decisive 40-point victory over Washington-Lee High School, and are undefeated so far (and they plan to keep it that way). Point guard Nate Wild attributes the team’s success to the right combination of players.

“We all play really well with each other, and we’re a tight knit group,” said Anderson.

Wild is looking forward to the competition this year is sure to bring. Both also plan to play basketball all four years of high school, “and keep a good school balance too,” said Wild.

Coach Casey Frederick is coaching his third season of the freshman basketball. The caliber and motivation of this year’s team is no different than what he’s used to.

“There’s a lot of hard work and a want to win with this group. I think we are gonna have a successful year. I think I’ve had that in the past. They all want to win, they all play hard for each other, and they all get along,” said Frederick.

Coach Frederick said he is looking forward to getting to know his players.

“It’s fun to spend time with them, not only at practice, but at team dinners and on bus trips to games…I enjoy, just as much as winning games. In practice we only get 90 minutes with each other,” said Frederick.

Freshmen Basketball’s main goal is to prepare players for JV and Varsity Basketball. Sophomore Drew Weidman noticed that the experience he gained on the Freshman team has helped him on JV.

“It helped me out, I had a lot of good teammates and it helped improve my fundamentals,” said Weidman.
