BGR v. Five Guys
Students decide the better burger restaurant
With a new Five Guys restaurant opening closer to home, BGR faces stiff competition. The Five Guys will be located in the Target shopping center in Potomac Run Plaza.
BGR is located in the Market Place off Palisades Parkway. To senior Erin Ward and freshman Christian Low, BGR outranks Five Guys. “The food is cooked to order. At Five Guys you get it [burgers] cooked well [done] every time. At BGR, you can specify what you want,” said Ward. BGR has more side and burger options than Five Guys. “At BGR, I get sliders which you can’t get at Five Guys,” said Low. While both are restaurants, each has their own, separate environment. “Five Guys has more of a take-out feel, while BGR has more of a restaurant-type environment,” said Low. A big reason people choose Five Guys over BGR is because of the expensive prices. “It takes a lot to make the food the way they [BGR] do. The food costs are high because of the meat and produce they use,” said Ward.
On the other side of the spectrum are the Five Guys fans. “I really enjoy Five Guys, warm, plump buns,” said senior Ian Brennan. For some, it comes down to tradition. “Five Guys has been around a lot longer,” said sophomore Casey Torres. While Five Guys may have fewer options, Brennan looks at the positives. “Free peanuts are definitely a good thing. I also like that when you order a small fry, they literally fill the bottom of the bag, not just the little fry cup.” A big aspect of restaurants is the customer service. “Five Guys employees are nicer because they are polite and use manners,” said Torres. Brennan breaks it down to the basics. “BGR’s mainly high school workforce is usually lazy and inattentive.” Different restaurants mean differing opinions of food quality. “I think BGR is saltier and less juicy than Five Guys,” said Torres.
Whether it is Five Guys or BGR, students love their experiences. From extra sides, to mouth-watering meat, both restaurants have something special to offer.
