“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” Review

On December. 18. the first “Star Wars” movie in ten years came out. It is also the first movie to come out since Disney purchased the “Star Wars” franchise. After the disappointing prequels, “Star Wars” needed a good movie to bounce back. This movie was just what the franchise needed. Although it was very similar to “Star Wars: Episode 4”, there was just enough change that made it great. The acting in it was amazing.

Daisy Ridley played Rey, the scavenger who finds a drone with a secret map in it. She was very good overall especially in the action sequences, they were very well choreographed. John Boyega played Finn, a former First Order soldier who realized the wrong of what they were doing so he soon abandoned and took a rebel prisoner with him. Boyega was at his best during the emotional scenes. Adam Driver plays the villain, Kylo Ren who has some gruesome scenes that show what he is capable of. He is very good at acting like a leader. Harrison Ford (Han Solo) and Carrie Fisher (Princess Leia) returned and the scenes where they were together were emotional but still had funny elements in it. Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) also returned, my favorite scenes with him were the ones with just him and Han Solo. It reminded me a lot of the original movies.

Among other things the writing was amazing and J.J. Abrams was just what it need. The writing was written in a style that showed humour, emotion and violence. There was an equal amount which made it perfect. The somber scenes were written so you were sad but they were followed by something that didn’t make you sad for too long. It is very hard to lose track of what is happening which is a problem that is common in action movies because of everything happening at such a fast pace.

The special effects, costumes and set design were the best in a science fiction movie i’ve seen in the last couple years. The costumes were simple and there wasn’t too much going on that would be a distraction. The special effects were very good and the explosions were very realistic. The set design reminded me a lot of the original movies. It had similar landscapes and similar places such as the Millennium Falcon.
In the end I would give “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” a 5/5. It was one of the best movies I’ve seen this year. It was definitely the best science fiction movie I’ve seen in a long time.
