Spring Sports Preview: Girls’ Varsity Soccer

A closer look at this year’s girls’ Varsity soccer team

Athletes on the girls’ varsity soccer team are enthusiastic for what lies ahead in their new season. The games, team-bonding, and overall experience are just a few examples of what many of the players are eager for.

Freshmen Natalie Swarm and Vanessa Eichensehr are happy to work with the team and meet new people. They’re also excited to play in the upcoming games and enjoy the many great get-togethers the team has planned.

“We do lots of fun pasta parties and team bonding,” said Eichensehr.

With the start of the new season, both athletes have goals of improving their technique and continuing to enjoy the sport.

“My goal is to do well during the season and get playing time,” said Swarm.

“I just want to play, have fun, and be competitive,” said Eichensehr.

As freshmen on the varsity team, both athletes are ready to take on the challenge.

“It’s a pretty big responsibility, but it’s also very rewarding,” said Swarm.

“It’s honestly scary, but at the same time, I feel really honored,” said Eichensehr.

As one of the returning members of the varsity team, junior Asha Silva is hoping the team continues to keep up the great record from last year. The record was 11 wins, 7 losses and 3 ties, and the team also won the Conference championship as well.

“My biggest goal would be to win states, [but] more realistically to just work well together and win as many games as we can,” said Silva.

Silva reflects on last season with positive emotions with how the season played out.

“It was really fun. Everyone on the team was really great [and] we had an amazing season,” said Silva.

“My favorite part was the bus rides to games because we always brought a speaker to blast music. It’s really fun. Everybody just gets to hang out,” said Silva.

Key games this season will be against:

Stone Bridge at home on March 23 at 7:15 p.m.

Tuscarora at home on March 30 at 7:15 p.m.

Heritage at home on March 31 at 7:15 p.m.

The team kicks off their season today against the Langley Saxons.
