Reign: Like This? You’ll Love That.
A list of endless entertainment for those who love all things historical fiction
A courtship from true love wasn’t the destiny of the innocent Queen Mary Stuart of Scotland (Adelaide Kane) and Prince Francis of France (Toby Regbo), as the pair were six years old when their marriage was written in the stars. With threats lurking in Scotland, Mary and her ladies-in-waiting abandon their home for France to protect the crown of Scotland. Arriving to the court of France, Mary found herself suffocating in its superstitious intrigue and her budding feelings with Francis and his half-brother, Sebastien (Torrance Coombs). This show is a great stepping stone to get anybody into more serious and historically accurate series like Wolfhall or Victoria.

Glamour, gowns, and cakes, “Marie Antoinette” directed by Sofia Coppola is a beautiful artistic and visual film for those in love with history. It is in step with “Reign” in regards to its grand costumes and scenery, as it was filmed in the very Palace of Versailles that the Queen Marie Antoinette of France (Kirsten Dunst) herself lived and breathed in. “Marie Antoinette” is a biographical film with a sympathetic perspective to the late queen and her tragic demise, painting her as lost in the throes of a judgmental court like Mary and soon in silk and tulle to mask her unhappiness. Both Mary and Marie Antoinette were thrown into the harsh and manipulative court of France, and had to find their way through it.
