Cross Country Girls Take First At Glory Days Invitational
With three top ten runners, the cross country girls win the Glory Days Grille Invitational
On Saturday October 7, the cross country team participated in the Glory Days Grill Invitational Race. This marks a huge achievement for the team since seven girls placed at the meet and the entire girls’ team finished first overall for the varsity B race.
Three girls placed in the top ten of the race. Sophomore Zoe Durham placed second with a time of 20.00 minutes. Sophomore Hayley Eck placed fourth with a time of 20.10 minutes. Senior Shea Brady placed 10th with a time of 20.51 minutes.
Finishing second place, Durham felt nervous about racing against 25 other schools and a total of 177 girls.
“It felt really good,” said Durham. “I was really surprised. It felt like all my hard work had paid off, my months of training.”
Four other girls also placed at the meet. Junior Erin Olia placed 18th with a time of 21.18 minutes. Senior Kelly Mogensen placed 20th coming in at 21.26. Junior Tyler Means placed 30th at 21.51 and senior Amelia Gay placed 59th out of 117 with a time of 22.44.
Brady has been running cross country since she was a freshman. She feels that this will help the team’s moral in a way that only placing first can.
“This means we’re competitive in our conference and our region and now we can see that we can do more than we thought we were capable of doing,” said Brady.
The boys team placed third with senior Charles Groscup being the only boy in the top ten. He placed seventh.
