Field Hockey Wins Region in Stone Bridge Rematch

After placing second in the Conference, field hockey comes back to beat Stone Bridge in the Regional Championship 1-0

Despite being an official sport for only one full year, the field hockey team is proving that they’re just as good as the rest. After losing 1-2 to Stone Bridge in the conference championship, they came back to redeem themselves by winning the regional championship over Stone Bridge 1-0.

“[I was] ecstatic [to win]. My heart was racing, and my throat hurts so much from all the joyous chanting and singing the team and I did on the bus ride home,” said junior midfielder Abby Asuncion.

They have a long road ahead of them if they want to win states, but the team feels that with practice, they have what it takes to make it all the way.

“We need to keep up the hard work and keep pushing,” said Asuncion.

The team went 13-3 in the regular season and is no stranger to post-season play. Last year, they fell to Broad Run in the conference championship 0-1 but still made it to the first round of regionals, losing to Massaponax 3-5.

“This is the second year of varsity field hockey in Loudoun County; many other counties have had field hockey programs for years. Being such a young sport in the county, it would be indescribable to win states. We’re so glad we’ve gotten this far,” said Asuncion.

The team will take on Albemarle at home tomorrow, Tuesday, November 7, at 5 pm.
