Deck the halls with Pixar
The rivalry between the juniors and seniors continues as judges determine whose hallway is better
It is, once again, time for the hallways to be decked out in paints, papers, and more in preparation for homecoming week. The overarching theme for this year’s Homecoming is Pixar. The seniors have claimed Monsters Inc./Monsters University, the juniors, Up, the sophomores, Cars, and the freshman, Toy Story. It is no secret that everyone is looking forward to what the juniors and seniors have in store for this year’s competition.
With the theme Pixar movies, there is an added pressure of trying to mimic the original artist’s style, which is what junior Mikaella Robles is apprehensive about, saying, “Seaworld was a lot easier, someone could just take each panel and say ‘this is a penguin’ and it would be different styles of art and it would look okay, but with it being a movie, the characters have to have the same style [as the original artist].” Senior Joshua Hallett partly agrees with Robles, saying, “It is not necessarily easier but a lot more organized. It’s easier to split sections and give everyone a specific job.” Senior Mary Rose Lunde disagrees with Robles saying, “I think it’s a lot better. We all know Pixar [movies]. I thought we got lucky this year [with their theme]. Personally, I love Nemo, but I think our choice was very wise.”
Junior Joe Gindhart is also excited that his class has Up, saying, “Part of the reason we chose Up was that it’s not as recognizable as some of the other Pixar movies. You don’t need to have exact replicas of every single thing in the movie, whereas if you have Toy Story, if you mess up what Woody looks like, you’re done.” Lunde is also excited, saying that the senior class has already mapped out the hallways and has a plan of how to decorate the halls.
Robles and Gindhart are confident that the junior class hallway will take the win this year, while Hallett and Lunde are equally confident that the senior class will win. “The juniors have won their homecoming hallway for four years. This streak ends with our class,” said Lunde.
The question for this year is, will the junior class keep winning, or will the seniors break the junior winning streak?
