Fashion is always changing, with trends coming and going, but one type of clothing seems to be here to stay. Leggings have grown in popularity over the past few years, specifically with high school girls. These stretchy pants have become a staple in many girls’ outfits and styles.

 Leggings are pants made of a tight elastic material similar to yoga pants. You can walk into any high school and see at least one girl wearing leggings. Their popularity has increased over the past few years, and for some, surpassing jeans as their favorite kind of pants.

 “I prefer to wear leggings, they are comfortable, but stylish at the same time,” said senior Tori Caldwell.

 With the growth in popularity of leggings, most young woman’s stores sell them.

 “I get all my leggings from Pink and Victoria’s Secret,” said sophomore Carolina Turner. Other popular stores that sell leggings are Charlotte Russe, H&M, Target, and American Eagle.

 There are some people who have not bought into the leggings craze. Leggings may just be too different from jeans and sweatpants to be considered pants.

 “Real pants have pockets, and leggings just are not actually pants,” said junior Becca Rios, “they are just too tight and revealing to be worn by themselves.”

 Leggings come in black, and other plain solid colors, as well as in patterns. Patterned leggings come in endless different designs spanning from graphic and floral patterns to leggings that look like outer space.

 “I like wearing plain leggings. I have more printed shirts than I do printed leggings and you can’t wear pants and a top with different patterns. I can wear my patterned shirts with my plain leggings,” said junior Maya Flowers.

 Along with being comfortable and stylish, leggings are a very versatile garment when it comes to what you can wear with them.

 “I wear sweaters and sweatshirts with my leggings,” said freshman Gianna Torres. Most types of shirts can be paired with leggings.

 “I wear long sweaters and cardigans with leggings but you can wear just about anything with them, that’s what makes them so great,” said Caldwell.
