Not your average salty sweet treat

Lay’s introduces new chip flavor

When picking a snack, it can be hard to choose between salty and sweet. Thanks to Lay’s, deciding which kind of snack you want has become much easier. Lay’s has introduced their Original Wavy Potato Chips Dipped in Milk Chocolate. From excited chip enthusiasts to more conservative snackers, there is still intrigue surrounding Lay’s latest potato chip flavor.

Regardless of whether people find chocolate covered potato chips appetizing, people still seem willing to at least try the chips once.

“I might try them,” said sophomore Tanya Nguyen, “they could be gross because Lay’s chips are greasy, but on the other hand they could be good like chocolate covered pretzels.”

Others are much more enthusiastic about Lay’s newest snack.

“I haven’t had them yet, but I would definitely try them. I like chips and chocolate and they sound like a really good combination of salty and sweet,” said junior Conor Mchugh.

Sales of the snack may do well due to initial curiosity and desire to try the product, but the question is whether chocolate covered potato chips will sell in the snack market.

“At first people will definitely buy it, but after a while only true chocolate lovers will buy them,” said senior Gabby Leriche.

Ultimately, the question is whether chocolate and potato chips together can become apart of American snacking culture, like the classic flavors Sour Cream and Onion and salt and vinegar.

“I don’t think potato chips and chocolate go together. Would you put melted chocolate on a potato? You wouldn’t,” said freshman Nathan Moseley.

Other people feel that it is the perfect snack.

“Chocolate and potato chips go well together,” said Mchugh, “salty and sweet is great.”

In the end it comes down to personal preferences and what individual people like.

According to Dietfacts.com, a serving for Lay’s Original Wavy Potoato Chips Dipped in Milk Chocolate is one ounce, and there are 160 calories per serving. The snack contains nine grams of fat and 45 milligrams of sodium. These chips may be okay to have one serving every once and a while, but who eats just one serving? “There is going to be so many calories and fats in them,” said Leriche, “but for the right kind of person they would be a good snack.”
