Fans concerned after rumors circulated on twitter about the actress’s alleged retirement from acting. 

After a close to 20 year career, adored Harry Potter actress, Emma Watson, was rumored to be taking a break from acting projects. On Thursday, Feb 25, Watson’s name began swirling around social media, with fans in a frenzy over the news. With the story still developing, news sources have all been working to piece together the unknowns of the situation. However, retirement for Emma Watson may not be the case after all.

The breaking quote that started it all: “Emma Watson has gone ‘dormant’ according to her agent, she ‘is not taking on new commitments, ‘”  reported The Outlet. A storm erupted quickly on Twitter, where Watson’s name became the top trending topic within minutes. Fans assumed the worst: Emma Watson would never be seen in another movie again, and that their favorite childhood actress had stepped away from the screen. 

Watson wants people to know that she is far from “giving up” on acting. The quote given from her agent was revoked, and was stated as a misunderstanding on his part. Jason Weinberg told Entertainment Weekly, “Emma’s social media accounts are dormant but her career isn’t,” which was a reassuring quote for Watsons fans. 

The hiatus in Watson’s social media presence was rumored to be caused by possible turmoil that started after the filming of 2019’s Little Women. Page Six reported in Dec 2019 that “Watson refused to join her fellow cast mates— Saoirse Ronan, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Laura Dern, Timothée Chalamet and Meryl Streep—on the press tour and simply attended the movie’s premiere.” Page Six also said that Watson is “looking to spend more time with rumored fiancé Leo Robinton.” 

So in a dramatic, yet relieving turn of events, it seems that we will get plenty of other chances to see Watson on the silver screen. Watson has had an impressive career so far, starring in the Harry Potter films at the age of nine. She became a household name with her role as Hermione Granger, and continued on to star in more cult classic teen films; Including Perks of Being a Wallflower, Bling Ring, Beauty and The Beast, just to name a few. 

The day Emma Watson retires completely is far off, and there is so much more to look forward to regarding what her career has in store. The few hours with flimsy rumors thrown around came as a scare to many, but Watson has made it clear that she has no intention of stepping away completely, and that this hiatus will not last forever.
