Fall Sports Wrap up: Football

The Potomac Falls football team had a remarkable 2014 season. The program has had more success this season than it has in the past, gaining the 6-5 Panthers much more attention. Along with the Panthers having a successful season, it marks a new tradition for the football team, a winning program.

The Panthers had an 8-7 win over 3-time state champion, Briar Woods. “[Briar Woods] is a good team, so that win was pretty exciting,” said senior Wanya Allen. Allen was a first team all-conference wide receiver and one of the team’s key contributors. The team’s best aspect was “[That] we played well together,” said Allen. Allen has played four years of varsity football and was excited to leave the team with a winning season.

This season’s team was different from others; they were a family. “I loved playing with 50 of my brothers [this season],” said junior Kyle Hobbs. Hobbs was part of the leadership committee and played a major role in inspiring the team before their games.

The team’s 2014 season has made people wonder how good the Panthers will be in upcoming years. The team will continue to grow under head coach Jason Allen, and hopefully can continue to get better to achieve their goal of winning a state championship.
