Soccer is one of the most competitive sports to make the team at Potomac Falls so being selected to be on the junior varsity (JV) team is very impressive.
When it comes to trying out for sports it can be very nerve racking.
“Tryouts were kinda scary and I was nervous, but they were still fun,” said freshman Katie Laurenson.
The team gives a lot of their time up to stay strong. They practice every day from 4pm to 6pm either at Algonkian Elementary School or River Bend Middle School depending on the weather. The only time they do not practice is on weekend and on game days. They do a lot of work during these practices.
“At practice we usually warm up first then we will do some ball control [drills]/shooting drills and then sometimes we will end practice with scrimmaging either ourselves or varsity,” said Laurenson.
The players are excited for the season, and have high expectations for the season.
“[I] think that we are [going to] win most of our games, and I think we are gonna do well this year,” said Laurenson.
Though the team is a new combination that does not put a damper on the player’s faith in the team.
“My team is still new to me, but I think we will become very strong,” said sophomore Josie Roberts.
All of the soccer games are important but there are a few that will be more intense than the others.
“Some games we [panther family] cannot miss are whenever we go against Broad Run and Tuscarora and Loudoun Valley,” said Roberts.
A great thing about being on a team is how closely you bond with other students.
“My favorite part of being on the team is getting to play with your classmates because it’s super fun,” said Laurenson.
Another great thing about being on a team is how they can brighten your day.
“I can always count on my team to make me smile,” said Roberts.
The way the team interacts can also be what truly makes your day.
“All the girls are really nice, I love the coaches they’re great,” said Chaale.
There is always a goal, especially when playing sports.
“I think the team’s goal is to win more games than we lose and to have fun,” said Laurenson.
These girls did not just walk onto the field awesome the have all had a bit a of practice. They all started playing a while before they tried out for the team.
The team of girls have bonded on the field and can not wait to take the season by storm and rock the field together.
