The girls’ varsity basketball team is hoping to turn around their season from a 3-17 record from last year. With the loss of only three seniors, the team has high hopes. “I think the major difference with this team is our ability to score the basketball. We have a variety of weapons on the offensive end of the court; we really have the opportunity to put up points. In addition, we also have speed we have not had in previous years,” said assistant coach Raven Short.

This season the team has seven seniors.  “We’ve gained a lot of good players. If anything, I predict we will be a lot better this year. From the beginning of off-season condition[ing], I have seen major improvement with the chemistry of the team and how we work together,” said senior Tori Birks. Birks has been playing on varsity for three years.

Key games this season are on Dec.1 against Park View and Jan. 5 against Dominion. “Dominion will probably be our most important game because of the rivalry. We lost to them last year, so I hope we are able to show our improvement as a team and as players when we play them,” said Birks.
