Description: The former Bright Eyes leadman has branched off to solo work and plans to perform tracks from his much anticipated album Upside Down Mountain. Opening act: Dawes.

“His lyrics are really meaningful and highlight important things in our world. Being able to incorporate his views and opinions in a lyrical format is something really worth admiring in my opinion,” said senior A.J. Ghimire

Movie: The Fault In Our Stars

Description: Based on the cultish teen book by John Green, this is the story of a sixteen-year old cancer patient (played by Shailene Woodley) who falls in love with a boy in her support group (played by Ansel Elgort). Directed by Josh Boone.

Where/When: Opens Friday June 6th. Rated PG-13.

“I’m super excited for the movie but I hope they don’t screw it up, compared to the book. Either way I’m bringing a full box of tissues,” said junior Alex Paganelli.

 

NOVA Fine Arts

Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival

Description: This annual festival features original crafts from local artists, various performances, artist demonstrations, live music, food from local eateries, and children’s activities.

Where/When: Sunday May 18th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. @ Reston Town Center in Reston, VA

“I’d love to go just to support local artists. Hopefully one day I can be in the festival,” said senior Hannah Wilson.

 

James

Concert: James Blake

Description: Originally from the UK, James Blake makes experimental electronic tracks. He was voted by Spin.com, a renowned music magazine as the most popular artist of New York in 2014.

Where/When: Thursday June 12th, Doors @ 6:30 p.m.; Lincoln Theatre in Washington D.C. ($40)

“The Blake concert is gonna be fantastic. I’m taking my girlfriend and our friend Markus, who’s really relevant,” said junior Noah Black.

 

March on Washington

Art: A Day Like No Other: Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington 

Description: Original photographs from the March on Washington, celebrating it’s 50th anniversary.

Where/When: Through May 31st @ The Library of Congress in Washington D.C. (Free)

“I think this exhibit will really show how much progress we’ve made over the past 50 years. I can’t wait to see it,” said sophomore Cailiegh Chadwick.

 

NM Sale

Style: Neiman Marcus First Call Sale

Description: NM’s Spring promotion features up to 40% rarely discounted designer items. This would be the perfect place to pick up a graduation dress or suit, or just browse for warmer weather items.

“I love this sale it’s a great opportunity to be able to buy more. I’m hoping to find a pair of white Gucci Horsebit loafers,” said freshman Nelson Mejia.

 

Palo Alto

Movie: Palo Alto

Description: California teens experiment with sex and drugs to rebel against their parents. Featuring Emma Roberts and James Franco, this much-loved film was debuted at the TriBeCa Film Festival. Directed by Gia Coppola (niece of Sofia Coppola!).

Where/When: Opens Friday May 9th in limited theatres. Rated R.

“I’m really excited for [Palo Alto] to come out. I love Emma Roberts,” said sophomore Abby Ertel.

 

Ringo

Concert: Ringo Starr

Description: Former drummer of the Beatles, this man needs no introduction. We can only hope that Sir Paul will make cameo.

Warped Tour

Music Festival: Vans Warped Tour 2014

Description: The music festival that truly epitomizes “moshing,” Warped Tour 2k14 will feature acts such as Breathe Carolina, Cute is What We Aim For, The Devil Wears Prada, Mayday Parade, The Ready Set, We the Kings, and many more.

Where/When: Tuesday July 22 @ Merriweather Post Pavillion in Columbia, MD ($37.50-45)

Art: Interconnected: Science, Nature and Technologies 

Description: Yuriko Yamaguchi’s sculptures explore the complex relationship between human and nature, and the ambiguous connection between natural beings and artifice.
